Danish Consortium to Develop Ammonia-Fuelled Engine for Maritime Sector

At Eltronic FuelTech, we are pleased to announce that we are going to be a part of the AEngine innovation project together with some of the leading companies within the maritime industry.

Ammonia-Fuelled Engine

Innovation Fund Denmark, the Danish investment entity, has announced the establishment of a consortium to develop a two-stroke, ammonia-fuelled engine for maritime shipping. It aims to specify and demonstrate an entire, marine-propulsion system that will pave the way for the first commercial order for an ammonia-fuelled vessel. Development of the engine is scheduled for 2024.

Project aims

As a marine fuel, ammonia has the potential to completely decarbonize the marine industry. The project aims to demonstrate – at full-scale – a large marine engine running on ammonia. The project comprises three main stages: 1) Concept development and initial design of an ammonia engine, 2) Design of an ammonia fuel-supply system, and 3) Full-scale testing.

Our contribution

At Eltronic Fueltech, we will be responsible for developing the solutions between the tank and engine. We are really looking forward to this exhilarating collaboration and we are proud to be among the front runners when it comes to innovating the shipping industry to become more sustainable.
