Eltronic FuelTech celebrates 10 years of commercial GVT in service

From the first installation in 2015 to more than 800 orders and over 400 Gas Valve Trains now at sea – marking a decade of innovation, growth, and partnership.

In 2015, Eltronic FuelTech took an important step into a new era of maritime propulsion when our very first Gas Valve Train (GVT) entered commercial service. This milestone marked not just the beginning of our GVT journey, but also a defining moment in the transition towards cleaner and more efficient fuel systems for the global shipping industry.

Over the past ten years, the demand for our GVT technology has grown exponentially, driven by shipowners and engine builders seeking reliable and future-proof fuel systems.

Today, more than 800 units have been ordered and over 400 are already operating at sea – powering vessels across the globe

A landmark beginning: The world’s first LNG-powered containership

The GVT journey began with a landmark project: the world’s first LNG-powered containership, Isla Bella, delivered by General Dynamics NASSCO to TOTE Maritime in 2015. Equipped with dual-fuel ME-GI engines from HSD Engine under license from Everllence – and featuring Eltronic FuelTech’s double block and bleed safety valve configuration – Isla Bella set new environmental standards and demonstrated the potential of LNG as a cleaner marine fuel.

Expanding our GVT capacity with production facilities in South Korea

Driven by the growing demand for our GVT solutions, we expanded our production capacity in 2024 with new facilities in South Korea. Operating as an extension of our GVT production at our headquarters in Denmark, the South Korean site enables us to assemble GVTs closer to our customers in the APAC region.

This local setup strengthens collaboration with engine builders and shipowners, shortens lead times, and ensures efficient delivery within one of the world’s key marine engine hubs.

A decade of innovation and continuous improvement

Innovation has been central to our success from the very beginning. From the first-generation MkI to the continuously refined MkIV, we have consistently advanced the GVT technology to meet evolving industry requirements. Each new version reflects our commitment to improving performance, reliability, and sustainability.

As Eltronic FuelTech marks this important milestone, we look ahead to the next decade with a continued focus on innovation, collaboration, and partnership.
